The "Dressrosa" storyline, which chronicles the Straw Hats' efforts to defeat the "Heavenly Yakuza" Donquixote Doflamingo, is widely considered to be one of One Piece's best arcs. Except for "Wano Country," which consists of a whopping 191 episodes, it is also the longest arc in the entire anime to date. As detailed on What's On Netflix, the acquisition of "Dressrosa" pushes Netflix's total One Piece episode count from 600 to 728, giving fans plenty of new content to enjoy while awaiting the series' official return later this year.

Netflix Announces Streaming Release Date for One Piece's Dressrosa Arc

Netflix is one of three major streaming services that carries Toei Animation's long-running shonen titan. While Crunchyroll is currently the only one that carries every episode of the series, the site recently locked a significant portion of One Piece behind tier one of its premium membership paywall. According to IGN, this decision was made in an attempt to "retain accessibility" while providing both subscribers and free users with "a best in-class experience." Consequently, Netflix's periodic updates may be the most cost-efficient option for some anime fans to keep up with Monkey D. Luffy's journey.

As of Jan. 8, Netflix carries Seasons 1-22 of the One Piece anime, leaving at least seven that have yet to be added. The "Marineford," "Fishman Island" and "Punk Hazard" arcs joined the platform's lineup in 2024. Heading into 2025, Crunchyroll will continue to move additional seasons behind its premium paywall, starting with "Punk Hazard," "Dressrosa Zou" and "Whole Cake Island" (Episodes 575-878) on Jan. 20 and "Reverie," "Wano" and "Egghead (Episodes 878 onward) on Feb. 17. However, Crunchyroll has assured fans that Episodes 1-206 will remain free to watch (with intermittent ads).

The One Piece series is currently in the middle of a major transitory period. In October 2024, Toei Animation announced that it would halt production on the anime for six months in order to address animation quality and pacing issues that have plagued the series for years. To tide fans over in the interim, Toei Animation has been airing a remastered version of One Piece's "Fishman Island Arc," which condenses the story's plot down to 21 episodes while adding freshly reanimated sequences. The final episode is slated to debut in March 2025, shortly before the planned continuation of One Piece's "Egghead Arc." One Piece's hiatus will conclude in April 2025.

One Piece is currently available to stream on Hulu, Netflix and Crunchyroll. Eiichiro Oda's original One Piece manga is available in English from VIZ Media.
